It’s a rainy Thanksgiving weekend in Vancouver which makes it all the more better to hold up inside with loved ones, get cozy by the fireplace, with some delicious food and smooth fall wine. You know what makes Thanksgiving even better, but defines the ideal fall wine? I’m going to show you some pairings with the help of the experts at Okanagan Crush Pad that will make this holiday easy, simple and a barrel of laughs!

While you are waiting for the meal to cook, welcome your guests or celebrate the day with Evolve Effervescence 2013 that retails for $19.99. Break out the bubbles for appetizers with Evolve Effervescence, this wine is soft in the mouth with bready notes and a hint of sweetness.

Thanksgiving can be a challenge – many different dishes all seasoned slightly differently, and you want a crisp, contrasting flavour. Try the lively citrus notes in Haywire Sauvignon Blanc 2014 ($24.90) – its lush mouthfeel backed by mouth watering acidity is a perfect foil to the rich flavours of butter and gravy.

Another white that is versatile enough for mashed potatoes, steamed carrots or even the turkey’s stuffing is the Fraser Valley’s own Singletree Chardonnay 2015 ($20). Its medium body and notes of peach, pear and tropical fruit make it a wonderful main meal wine.

And for those that need their special red wine, the recently-released and award winning Syrah from TIME Winery 2013 ($35) will hit all the right notes. This wine just won a coveted Platinum award from the Okanagan Wine Festival. Full bodied and lush, this Syrah shows bold aromas of ripe blackberry and dark fruits with a subtle note of mint. On the palate, a symphony of rich black currant, dark plum, ground pepper, and cinnamon ease into a layered finish.

And finally once the main event is done… after that big dinner: Netflix, and Quill… The affordable, delicious and gold-medal-winning Quill Red blend from Blue Grouse Estate Winery 2014 ($19) is a great feet-up sipper.
