Spring is the season of fresh starts – and what better place to begin than in the garage? For our family, it was a chance to turn an often-overlooked space into something truly beautiful, functional, and personalized. As a mom of three young boys (ages 6, 3, and 11 months), I knew we needed more than storage – we needed a system that worked for us. And like many families this time of year, spring cleaning and organizing were already top of mind.
What began as a cluttered catch-all is now a thoughtfully designed extension of our home. With the help of some incredible brand partners, we brought this vision to life – just in time to inspire your own seasonal refresh.
Stor-X took the lead in designing a fully customized garage system tailored to our family’s needs. From wall-mounted storage for sports gear and tools to sleek cabinetry that hides the chaos, everything now has a place. The layout was optimized for accessibility and efficiency, including a workstation for Gary, my partner, to use for projects and repairs. One shelf within the track system houses an LED touch table lamp and my most special item – my late grandfather’s vintage CP Rail lantern. Lower storage zones allow the kids to help tidy up too.
Above the mudroom area, open shelving holds NEAT Method‘s Oxford bins in stone with black labels for a cohesive look. These bins contain my mom essentials and grab-and-go items, including socks for the kids (which used to live in their closets, but now make more sense here when putting on their shoes). It’s all about streamlining and easing our daily routines.
To truly elevate the space, we called in the organizing pros from Lumea Living Vancouver. They brought in labeled bins, functional systems, and aesthetic touches that made staying tidy feel effortless. Their thoughtful approach helps ensure our systems will last all year long. Their approach was both beautiful and practical – perfect for a busy household.
Expert tip from Sarah Gerber of Lumea Living Vancouver: “Keep grab-and-go zones at kid height so they can be involved in cleanup.” Another great piece of advice: “Labeling doesn’t just look good – it actually helps everyone know where things belong, especially in shared spaces like garages.”
Sarah Gerber, lead organizer and owner of Lumea Living Vancouver, shares a few expert tips to keep your space organized all year long:
Edit before you organize: Start by decluttering and eliminating items that no longer serve you. Be mindful of what you’re storing, and keep only what you love or need.
Use clear bins for visibility: Storage bins with transparent sides make it easy to see what’s inside without opening every container, which helps save time and frustration.
Invest in quality storage systems: Strong, reliable shelving and storage containers are key to a lasting, organized space. High-quality products will withstand wear and help keep things tidy.
Label everything: Labels are a game changer when it comes to maintaining an organized space. A simple label makes it easy for the whole family to know where things belong.
Keep items off the floor: Utilize vertical space whenever possible. This keeps the floor clear, creating a more open and accessible area.
Our garage floor was completely transformed by Epoxy Experts, who installed a durable, high-gloss epoxy coating that not only looks incredible but also stands up to the daily wear of an active household. The seamless epoxy flakes instantly modernized the space, giving it a sleek, showroom-style finish we never knew we needed. Beyond just aesthetics, this floor is stain-resistant, impact-proof, and easy to clean, a practical upgrade that will last for years.
While flake floors are a signature offering from Epoxy Experts, their expertise extends far beyond residential garages. They also specialize in metallic epoxy systems, concrete polishing, industrial ESD coatings, quartz broadcast systems, and large-scale commercial flooring for retail, warehouses, and manufacturing spaces. Whether you’re looking for a stylish, durable upgrade at home or a high-performance flooring solution for a business, Epoxy Experts delivers exceptional results every time.
One of the most exciting additions to the garage was the creation of a small workout area. With three kids, finding time to exercise can be a challenge, so I knew I needed a space that would let me work out at home. Equipped with sleek GoZone equipment from Walmart Canada, including a walking pad and a smart yoga mat storage rack, this area is perfect for a quick workout while the kids nap or for squeezing in some yoga between meetings.
Gary also has his own workout corner, complete with an adjustable workout bench, which was perfect for his strength training sessions. To organize all our workout gear, we added a 3-tier cart from Walmart Canada, which keeps everything neatly stored and accessible – from dumbbells to yoga blocks and resistance bands. We also included soft interlocking floor mat tiles to create a cushioned, protective workout surface that’s both functional and stylish.
To add warmth and texture, we styled the garage with Tonic Living pillows – the Flora and Sutton pillows, softening the visual impact of the storage while helping define the mudroom zone with a cozy, elevated feel. We also layered in the beautiful Jute Braided Runner from Rugs USA, which brought in the perfect amount of warmth, texture, and natural character to the space. I love how the organic woven detail balances the sleek cabinetry and polished epoxy floor while making the garage feel like a true extension of our home. Its durable, family-friendly design was ideal for a high-traffic area while still feeling timeless and designer-inspired. Walmart Canada provided versatile bins, hooks, and finishing touches that made this makeover both affordable and accessible. Walmart Canada has such a wide assortment of affordable offerings, making it easy to stay on budget while still achieving a polished, elevated look.
The custom bench in the mudroom space was done by Olivia Services in a 4″ thick custom fabric by Tonic Living. This beautiful addition gives the space a cozy yet functional feel, perfect for our kids to sit while putting on shoes or coats.
This project reminded me that every corner of our home can be purposeful and polished – even the garage. With spring cleaning on everyone’s minds, now is the perfect time to rethink how you’re using your space. Whether it’s for storage, projects, or simply reducing the daily chaos, a little intention goes a long way. Let this transformation be your inspiration to create a garage that works for your life – and looks amazing doing it.

Wow, this garage makeover is the ultimate proof that even the most chaotic spaces can be tamed! Having kids definitely makes the organized garage idea a laughable fantasy, but seeing the track system and labeled bins makes me wish I had NEAT Method Vancouver come organize my closet instead. The epoxy floor is a genius idea – way better than dealing with that mysterious oil stain conundrum. And calling it a workout zone is cute, but Im pretty sure Garys bench is mainly for complaining about the laundry. Still, its nice to dream of a space where socks dont live under the car, even if my garage currently resembles a small landfill during tax season.
