We all know that feeling when things get busy, and you just wish you could freeze time. Unfortunately I don’t have a time machine for you, but I do have some life hacks that will save you time, energy and money! You know that feeling when you get to dinner, look down and see deodorant marks on your LBD? Yah, me too… but I have a cure for that. Or maybe a time when you’re off to a meeting and realize that your fresh white kicks got scuffed en-route? I can fix that too. Ladies and gentlemen, I present you; my favourite fashion life hacks!
Let’s talk about the ultimate day to night, knight in shining armour; Henkaa. Henkaa offers some of my favourite “convertible” pieces. I wake up, toss on the infinity bra (which is strapless, backless and seamless) and slide into my morning version of the sakura dress. In the morning, I might put together a short-sleeved loose fit look for the office, and transform into a short, sassy strapless get-up for dinner. Seriously, this dress makes me feel like the gadgets around Megan Fox in Transformers. It’s great to have a piece that can cater to my changing day, eliminating the need to haul around a second outfit or stress about making it home to change. Fun fact – the sakura dress can morph into almost 60 different styles – now THAT is a good purchase!
Now I wish I could tell you that I always toted around a hand steamer, and that I was an expert and pressing all the pleats, collars and seams in my clothing – but that would simply be untrue. This hack is one of my boyfriend’s favourites, because I’m always saving the day when he’s ready to leave the house with a wrinkled collar. I’m talking about the all-mighty mini straightener. Yes, the one you used back in the day when you had bangs. Any hair straightener will do the trick, however I prefer this mini one from Conair because it’s compact, fits nicely in the purse, gets out all your wrinkles quickly with dual voltage and heats up fast to 365 degrees, so perfect for when you’re on the go or when you travel, and at $29.99 it won’t break the bank.
Just take your straightener and run it across the collar and then you’re good to go.
One of my favourite MUST have items is my Mr. Clean Magic Eraser(s). They’re perfect for the scuff on my white walls, they’re my go-to to brighten up my white eames chair, they make my stove SPARKLE AND they elevate my wardrobe. Rushing here or there in heels, getting out of the car, hopping up on the sidewalk, you can easily scuff your shoes. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser takes those scuff marks right out. The micro-scrubbers inside a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can tackle tough marks, stuck-on-dirt and scuffs all around your home and beyond. A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser might look like a sponge, but it cleans like magic. Just wet it then squeeze out the extra water and in just a few swipes the marks will lift away. I thought this was the most amazing thing when I first tried it because I used to have no idea what to do with my patent shoes once they got any scuff marks on them – now you’d think all of my shoes are brand new.
Everyone owns a little black dress and we’ve all waited until the last minute to slip it on, just to notice deodorant marks on our dress as we are heading out the door. It can be so frustrating. Well pantyhose will do the trick folks. All you need to do is take one of your old pairs of nylons that you don’t use anymore and rub it on top of the deodorant mark and voila it’s gone and you’re out the door.
One of my all-time favourite items are the Burt’s Bees facial towelettes. If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you know this is also something that never leaves my purse! I’ve found that facial cloths remove stains on white clothing. Just gently rub the area with your towelettes and it takes the stain right out, cleaning up your mess in an instant. I love to use Burt’s Bees because they are natural and leave you and your clothes smelling great.
Now you won’t be able to get every stain out like red wine or ketchup but for mild stains such as dust, dirt or makeup this will do the trick.
Last but not least; the infinity scarf! I love my infinity scarf this time of year, especially on those cooler fall days. As I’m sure you know, different outfits require different styling and similar to our Henkaa dress you have the ability to change up your look in a variety of ways with one item. It also comes in handy on the plane as a shawl, blanket and as a nice accessory. I love this one from RW&Co. The colours are also neutral that it goes with everything.
Hopefully I’ve helped you get geared up for a busy fall and you’ll be armed with your arsenal of tools, next time you’re all dressed up, feeling confident in your outfit, just to find out that your deodorant has plagued your look – don’t get changed! Remember, you have a fix for that!
