Dreamland getaway…aka Tofino!

TGIF!!! Happy Friday everyone! I hope you’re all set up for a great weekend. I’m having a weekend in the city, but a few weekends ago Gary and I went to Tofino and had SUCH a great time.  I feel so lucky to live on the West Coast, and have the opportunity to explore the scenery that BC has to offer! I feel so refreshed after my weekend away.

Let me tell you a little bit about our trip, and what made it so great.

We stayed at my FAVOURITE Tofino Resorts – The Pacific Sands Beach Resort. If you don’t feel like exploring Tofino, trust me you can stay amused JUST at Pacific Sands. They have boardwalks, surf lessons and even bike tours… not to mention their beautiful rooms (if you feel like just hunkering down and relaxing). Every unit has a fireplace, I know it’s a little hot for that right now but my GOSH it’s cozy after a long day out and about!

On Friday night we went for dinner at Shelter – a Tofino restaurant that sources all their ingredients from local farms and waters. Apparently they have the best Chowder in the West Coast (Gary agrees). PLUS their gorgeous balcony sits under an umbrella of twinkling lights, it felt so rustic.

After a lazy Friday night, we woke up bright and early for a day of surfing with Tofino’s favourite “Surf Sisters.” Surf Sister is a surf school based out of Tofino who give lessons for beginners, all the way up to expert technique classes (hopefully one day Gary and I will be taking the expert lessons)… not QUITE yet!

On Saturday, we had to take a little break from adventure for lunch at Wolf in The Fog (surfing is HARD work). Their whole dining experience is influenced by their surroundings.. for example “freshly-landed salmon from local fishermen or chanterelle mushrooms foraged from the forest around us.” PLUS they have the most beautiful china dishes! If you have the chance to go, their house cocktails are a must – the “Bohemian Raspberry” was my fave!

After sleeping in (just a little) on Sunday, we went on a hike up Schooner Cove Trail.  There are boardwalks and wooden bridges in the middle of a beautiful rainforest – how amazing is that? You can even see the ocean through the spaces in the trees.  The path goes right to the beach, putting my feet in the water felt so nice after all those stairs.

After our hike we went out to Mackenzie Beach for some Paddle Boarding. I think paddle boarding is such a fun date activity; it’s secluded, active and FUN. I was so relieved that we didn’t have any whale visitors, I get a little nervous out there on the open water.

On Sunday night we wrapped up our Vacation with dinner at The Pointe in the Wickaninnish Inn, the only thing that beats the restaurant view is their famous spiced carrots (seriously they’re AMAZING). The entire dining area is surrounded with these huge windows overlooking the ocean, it’s magical.

I know, we jammed our weekend full of activities – don’t worry, we made lots of time to RELAX too!

Have you guys been to Tofino? What are your favorite hiking trails?

I can’t wait to go back and try more of Wolf In The Fog’s cocktails!

xx
