Some of my favorite memories are fits of laughter with my bestie over tabloid magazines and varnish colors. I love to go for mani-pedis with my girlfriends. It’s a great way for us to catch up, get a quick bit of relaxation in and take care of our regular digit maintenance. While a mani-pedi date is a tried and true girl date, I’m going to propose something a little outside the box: Peelers.
Project Skin MD recently opened their South Granville express stop, PS Glow Room and they are changing the way Vancouverites get their skin fix in. Stay with me here. When you think ‘facial’ I know the last thing you want to do is be out in public. Extractions make your skin red and blotchy, and your skin is still absorbing the nutrients from your masque. I get it. PS Glow Room is doing express facial care differently. They offer peels in a fun, relaxing environment specifically designed for sharing with your bestie.
Still with me? Last week I took my girlfriend Sydney Socias to PS Glow Room and we walked into a beautiful space with ‘It’s Glow Time’ radiating from the flat black wall. Already it takes everything in me not to whip out my phone and snap a pic. The room is stunning with clean lines and fresh greenery. I’ve already eyed up a few new Skinceuticals products I’m dying to try! We’re greeted with a warm welcome and offered collagen spiked Trumarine matcha tea. The wonderful front desk staff take our bulky winter coats and we ease into the waiting area.
In most spas, you’d be asked to turn off your cell phone and given a ‘gentle’ reminder when our voices reach above a whisper. Not here. In the hot seats are a bride-to-be and her group of bridesmaids all cracking up about last weekend’s bachelorette party. I’m already digging this new vibe. When the bridal party gets set to leave, I sneak a peek at their skin. It’s not red, there is no blotchiness. They are absolutely GLOWING! All the highlighter in the world couldn’t touch this fresh faced look!
We climb into side by side seats and are draped with capes. A few jokes about being in for a hot razor shave and we’re off. Our skincare technician explains the process of the peel, the oxygen promoting products she’ll use and the diamond tip microdermabrasion tool that will loosen and remove dead skin.
The entire process took all of half an hour and was incredibly relaxing. The facial was fantastic and I was so happy to see that same candlelight glow the bride proudly sported. The staff were so knowledgeable, answered all my questions and just when I thought I couldn’t be any happier with my experience, I woke up the next day to impossibly smooth skin. I was elated!
If you haven’t had a peel before, I highly recommend PS Glow Room. It’s in a great South Granville location—perfect to kick off a shopping trip or following up a lunch at Heirloom. While I’m not saying replace the mani-pedi girl date, I am saying the gratification of a freshly peeled face is about a million times more satisfying than the latest ‘pinot noir’ color gracing your baby toes. Express peels are definitely worth adding into the girl-date mix!
