View the Vibe correspondent Natalie Langston is a busy woman. As a TV host, reporter and producer for City Lights and Fitness on the Run for Novus TV in Vancouver, she makes being in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes seem ever so effortless. That’s why we’re always excited when she can join us at View the Vibe, like during TIFF 2013 this past September. We caught up with the globe-trotting journalist to find out more about her exciting career, what’s in her beauty bag and her current style obsessions…
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
I’m a very high energy, fun loving girl who has a zest for experiencing all that life has to offer. Whether jet skiing in the Bahamas, parasailing over the Sea of Cortez, sightseeing in the south of France, or even shopping in Toronto or New York, I have a passion for anything and everything new and exciting. Traveling around the world and meeting new people is such a thrill for me and something I will never tire of. In terms of my work and career, I love what I do as a TV host, reporter and producer for City Lights and Fitness on the Run for Novus TV. I can actually say that it’s rewarding and exciting and I have fun going to work each and every day. What I love most is that every day is never the same and I have the opportunity to chat and interact with a wide variety of the most interesting and successful people, such as health and fitness professionals, award winning athletes and high-profile celebrities. I’ve always wanted to work in entertainment and television ever since I was a little girl, and this has been like a dream come true.
What have been some of the biggest highlights of your career so far?
I’m very proud of the fact that I have been the youngest reporter for Novus TV and have become a key member of their production team. They give me a considerable amount of freedom for someone my age. I work hard and I love the sense of achievement. I am constantly pitching, producing and hosting episodes on a regular basis and am so proud to have been working for the network for more than four years now.
I was also thrilled to have had the opportunity to interview Team Canada during the 2010 Olympics for Global BC. Mind you it was in a scrum situation behind the arena after waiting a few hours to get the interview, but I did it nonetheless and am so proud to have been able to work on the O-Show with Squire Barnes for the Olympic Games. It was definitely an experience I will never forget.
Finish this sentence: I love Vancouver because…
…it’s home. No matter where my career takes me I will always be a west coast girl at heart.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
I have so many favourite restaurants, it’s hard to choose just one. My favourite restaurant in Vancouver would have to be Les Faux Bourgeois. The food is always fantastic, the ambiance is intimate and relaxed and I always look forward to having dinner there.
I also love to get away and head over to The Pointe at the Wickaninnish Inn. With breathtaking views of Chesterman Beach and the waves crashing against the Tofino shoreline, it’s a perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The idyllic views give me peace of mind and the solitude that I need to get my creative juices flowing. Escaping here gives me down time to feel rejuvenated again so that I’m refreshed to take on my busy shooting schedule back in the city.
I also love Hemingway’s in Toronto any time of the year. The outdoor patio is open all year round with heaters going continuously. The patio is always packed and the food is delicious. (Bruschetta is a must). I’ve had some really fun times at that restaurant with lots of amazing friends. It’s one of the first spots my boyfriend took me to actually. Terroni in Toronto is another fantastic spot for lunch. The outdoor terrace has a great vibe, the atmosphere is unbeatable.
What’s one of your favourite go-to designers/brands or accessories lines and why do you sport their fashions?
I am absolutely loving everything from Pink Tartan. I wore a colour blocked navy and pink dress for a feature photo shoot with the Westender recently and the way the dress just hugs my body in all the right places is something I look for in the pieces I wear. I never like to fidget and I choose pieces that are comfortable and Pink Tartan is definitely all of that.
I am a spokesperson for the clothing brand Joseph Ribkoff in Canada. I love that there is a wide range of wearable of pieces and a variety of looks that I can wear everyday from events to press engagements to red carpets.
I also love anything by All Saints, a British fashion retailer that has now come to Canada.
What 5 products are in your beauty bag right now?
Lip gloss, translucent powder, travel moisturizer, water bottle, iPhone, mints, ballet flats for after events, and wallet size photos with my mom and my boyfriend. (More than 5, I know… I couldn’t choose. I’m a pack rat).
What style trends are you obsessed with right now?
I’m uhhbsessed with leather leggings, faux fur and Frye boots. Fall is one of my favourite times of the year because it’s fabulous for fashion. You can pair your outfit with so many different accessory options. I am also loving the burgundy colour trend. I have a burgundy peplum top I can’t wait to pair with my leather leggings.
What’s your favourite spa or service?
I absolutely love Bella Garnet Salon and Spa in Yaletown. The space is beautiful with brick walls and a warm vibe that makes me feel at home. Not to mention one-block from my condo – how can it get any better? This definitely makes it so convenient for me when I’m in a rush or in between shoots. All the ladies are so friendly and very accommodating of my crazy schedule. After a blow out at the salon I instantly feel ready to take on the world. Definitely check them out if you haven’t already.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with your busy life?
I’d love to hear from you. Keep up to date with my adventures on social media: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. My site, natalielangston.com, will be launched next month and I cannot wait for you all to see it. There will be a mix of fashion, fitness, entertainment, and it is a platform to follow my adventures along the crazy journey I call my life.
