As many of you know, I’ve been a longtime supporter and Ambassador for Dress for Success Vancouver. I love working with an organization whose goal is to empower women to achieve economic independence. Every fall I attend their annual Success Luncheon, the second largest annual fundraiser for them, after the Spring IMPACT event. I bring my Mom with me to celebrate her accomplishments and so we can lift women up together. This year the event will look very different. I’ll be at home with my laptop tuning in virtually instead of connecting with other DFS supporters, clients, volunteers and staff.

During this ‘she-cession, Dress for Success’s services are needed more now than ever. Over 2.8 million women in Canada have lost their jobs or at least half of their usual work hours. That’s one in three women in Canada.

Dress for Success has been an economic first responder since the beginning of COVID 19. Within days they had pivoted their services online, developed new systems to help women respond to government assistance and programming while creating an online community to keep their clients connected and supported. All with severely reduced funding, staff working remotely and uncertainty looming. They’re currently working to serve more women than ever, online and at their boutique, and while operating on less than 50% funding capacity.
