As signs of spring are all around us, we’re turning our focus to what the new season has to offer. It’s the perfect time to introduce our new ‘Girl in Focus’, Natalie Langston. We’re inspired by her fashionable, yet very active lifestyle, and look forward to having her share her style inspirations with us from March to May 2016.
CeeCee: What do you do for work?
Natalie: I’m a Canadian TV host, producer and fitness and health Reporter for BC Living. I’ve merged my journalistic background and media expertise with my passion for fitness-on-the-run and holistic health to inspire positive change within our fast-paced world. I also emcee and enjoy giving back to my community as a volunteer and spokesperson for Dress for Success Vancouver, member of the Ladies Who Lunch Global Network for female entrepreneurs and style ambassador for the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards.
CeeCee: That’s impressive … what do you consider the best part of your job?
Natalie: I remember the first time reporting for Novus TV, I felt alive, I felt a sense of purpose and a rush of energy and that confirmed to me that I was exactly where I was supposed to be, doing exactly what I loved most. Not to mention every day is never the same and it’s surprising where some days can take me. Meeting and talking to some of the most extraordinary people while showcasing their talents is always so interesting.
CeeCee: Nothing beats an interesting and exciting job. What is your biggest strength?
Natalie: My drive, determination and ability to persevere through significant challenges.
CeeCee: What’s your next big life goal?
Natalie: Owning both my apartment in Vancouver and buying a home in Toronto with my boyfriend Stephen. Hosting a network television show.
CeeCee: That’s certainly ambitious, I really admire that. What are you most excited about these days?
Natalie: I’m excited to have been nominated for a Notable Award recognizing my work in Journalism. I also have a variety of campaigns and projects coming up that I’m really excited about, and teeing up for a big media tour across Canada. Also getting to spend some quality time with family excites me.
CeeCee: Congratulations on the nomination. With so many different things going on in your life, what goals are you focused on for 2016?
Natalie: I’m working on branding my show ‘Fitness on the Run’ to the general public, providing healthy ways to stay fit and active on the go. With my continuously busy schedule it’s certainly a challenge. Stephen and I have goals of taking our list of shows from sizzles to paid programs on a variety of possible networks and digital platforms.
Another goal is to host a Travel Show around the world. I’ve completed the first step, auditioning for a travel show all across Europe with the Global Degree. I will know if I’m accepted March 22. Stay tuned. I think I’m going to need more hours in the day!
CeeCee: You definitely will. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Natalie: Don’t sweat the small stuff. Treat everybody the way you’d like to be treated. Always remember you have to live with the person you look at in the mirror – my Mom. Do your best, leave the rest – Vancouver Cab Driver.
CeeCee: That’s great advice. What is the vice you’ll never give up?
Natalie: Dark chocolate
CeeCee: Ummm … that’s mine too. So, what’s your guilty pleasure?
Natalie: I always feel guilty when I’m not working but I’m trying to get better at that. Escaping for a hike without my phone, just being amongst nature, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the cool breeze is what I crave. Oh and Scandal – I love that show!
CeeCee: What’s the most recent hobby you’ve picked up?
Natalie: Photography
CeeCee: I started getting seriously into photography myself, last year. If you could switch lives with anyone who would it be?
Natalie: Ryan Seacrest
CeeCee: How would you describe your style?
Natalie: Modern, classic, timeless.
CeeCee: I can totally see that in the choices you made for our video shoot. So, who is your style icon?
Natalie: Audrey Hepburn and Greta Garbo
CeeCee: Interesting choices … as you said, classic and timeless. Which star’s signature look has inspired yours?
Natalie: Blake Lively
CeeCee: Her look is fabulous! Now I’m curious about what style trend you are excited to try this season?
Natalie: Poncho
CeeCee: Love them … and what’s your season must-have item?
Natalie: The Moto Jacket for sure … that you can pair with everything from dresses to leather trousers and hot pants. Oh and a baseball cap.
CeeCee: A leather jacket is so versatile, it can go with almost any outfit. Who are your favourite Coquitlam Centre retailers?
Natalie: Aritzia, Lululemon, Saje Natural Wellness, LUSH, Pandora, Privilege Clothing, Sunglass Hut, Urban Barn, Waves, Yogibo, Zennkai Salon and … Purdy’s Chocolates of course!
CeeCee: And what are your go-to accessories?
Natalie: Pearl and diamond earrings, blanket scarf, gloves with a little faux fur and a good pair of Frye boots.
CeeCee: What’s the best fashion trend of all time?
Natalie: Denim, oversized sunglasses, the bikini and the LBD.
CeeCee: I’d agree with those. And, what is the best fashion secret you’ve ever learned?
Natalie: Carry a pair of flats in your purse at all times.
CeeCee: Great advice. If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Natalie: As cliché as it sounds, a smile. You could be wearing a paper bag, but if you’re radiating positivity and happiness, anything will look beautiful.
CeeCee: Everyone notices your smile … it’s amazing. What are your favourite beauty products?
Natalie: Organic tinted moisturizer, Blistex lip ointment and the best gel eye mask I’ve ever used, especially when I’m travelling, from La Biosthetique Canada.
CeeCee: I’ll have to give that eye mask a try. With your busy lifestyle, what’s your beauty trick for getting out the door fast and still looking great?
Natalie: Pop your hair in a bun. Throw on some tinted moisturizer and a bit of Blistex on your lips. Give your cheeks a pinch, unclip your hair and you have a nice wave as you’re running out the door. 5 min flat!
CeeCee: What product is your go-to skin savior?
Natalie: LUSH Skin Drink facial moisturizer because they don’t test on animals and its vegan. It’s great for adding moisture back to my skin when I’m travelling.
CeeCee: What is your favourite movie?
Natalie: A Beautiful Mind, Mary Poppins and Forest Gump.
CeeCee: Those are some of my favourites too. So, what’s your ideal night out?
Natalie: When Stephen and I have a date night and we walk the city, go for dinner, have great conversation and do a little dancing. We have these nights every so often and they mean a lot to me.
CeeCee: That sounds like a perfect date night. What are three things in your bag you can’t live without?
Natalie: My phone, my wallet and an old picture of me and my mom.
CeeCee: I know you have the travel bug, what country have you always wanted to visit?
Natalie: France and the Society Islands of French Polynesia.
CeeCee: That would be an amazing trip. What’s your favourite food?
Natalie: Salmon, mashed potatoes and asparagus.
CeeCee: Yum … and your favourite dessert?
Natalie: New York Cheesecake and Haagen-Dazs Coffee Ice Cream… keep them away from me.
CeeCee: What’s your favourite way to exercise?
Natalie: Dance, run, yoga.
Natalie xx
