Recently I had one of the most magical dinners of my life and it happened to be on one of my favourite days of the year.
I arrived at Eco Dairy in Abbotsford which has the cutest classic red barn and walked into a beautiful moon-lit field. The dinner table was in the middle of an array of sunflowers, spanning as far as the eye could see.
In case we didn’t feel grateful enough, there was a private helicopter, escorting guests for tours of the wonderful Eco Dairy grounds and of the Abbotsford area. Let me tell you, a private helicopter ride under the harvest moon was one for the books. The light was so beautiful. There were almost as much Singletree wine as there were sunflowers and endless food from Restaurant 62 and Harvest Grill and Greens. I had the most delicious spinach chicken salad that they prepared just for me, to accommodate for my food restrictions – so sweet. All of the food was amazing, but I was particularly blown away by the incredibly delicious charcuterie platter which was all locally sourced, farm to table ingredients. I found one of my new favourite whites, which is made in our backyard in the Okanagan, for UNDER $20 – thanks Singletree.
One of the highlights of my night was getting a chance to catch up, I mean like really catch up, with Barb, you know full-on girl-talk! Even though we see each other every week when we are taping our feature, it’s not the same as when you get to spend good ole quality time with your girlfriend! Normally I would have taken Gary to a romantic event like this, and I’m so glad I had some Barb time.
The decor was mind blowing! Seriously, it isn’t easy to make a field look elegant, but they did! It was regal-rustic with a variety of crops and pumpkins mixed throughout. It felt like fancy-fall.
After the event, we were sent away with cider and pumpkins to recreate our own Under The Harvest moon – at home. The evening inspired me to get fall-decorating and incorporate the change of seasons into my place. I also brought home some dessert for Gary, which was gobbled up in about 2 seconds (my own turkey) he made short work of the almond round cake and practically inhaled the peanut butter square.
I’m crazy about the moon – one of the only girls who answers “moon” when asked “moon or stars.” I have been fascinated by it since I was a little girl. I am also a big fan of the song “Harvest Moon” – I’m actually related to Neil Young by marriage, so naturally this event tugged an my heartstrings and will be a tough one to forget. I attend so many in-door events and it was so refreshing to get outside, disconnect, be present and CONNECT with some of the people who are important to me. A night under the harvest moon has filled my heart with joy!
