If you’re like me, come fall I get a little tired of my living space that I’ve become accustomed to all summer. Now that the weather is changing and getting cooler, I want a cozier feel at home. I want that warm, welcoming vibe to hit me when I walk through the door after a long day… especially on those rainy Vancouver days. I recently chatted with Lifestyle Meets Comfort about how easy it is to spruce up your living space with a few simple tips and tricks. Trends are always changing based on the season and this fall you can expect to see much more burgundy, purple and pinks to take centre stage. However, if you’re on a budget more neutral, timeless pieces are the way to go. This way you can incorporate them each season and they won’t clash with the newer pieces you bring in. My advice would be to inflect small changes that will make a huge difference to your living space this fall.
One of my tried and true tips each season is to PURGE! Get rid of everything you don’t need. I just did this last week and I couldn’t believe all of the needless stuff I’ve accumulated. It’s so easy for things to pile up without even noticing. Organize, tidy, and look at what you haven’t touched or worn in the last six months. Recycle, sell or give whatever you can away to friends, family, or the nearest homeless shelter. Dress for Success Vancouver takes makeup and skincare items as well as more business savvy attire. Honestly it’s so liberating to live with less. It can be quite cleansing too. Here are some easy ways to inject a little Fall into your living room, dining room and kitchen space without breaking the bank.
Flower Arrangements
Honestly I wish I could have fresh flowers delivered to my door each week. When I heard that Elton John does this I was like #GOALS! But it’s not economical for me and I’m sure you can relate too. So a centre piece like this one I picked up from La-Z-Boy is the right size and colour that I was looking for. Shades of pinks and purples work well in my space and are perfect fall colours as well and they really pop amongst the other grey tones. And notice how simple I’ve kept the accessories with minimal clutter. This is way easier upkeep and still looks real to the untrained eye. Candles are always nice to incorporate come fall. I light a few in my living room to set the mood and feel right at home.
Greenery
Here is an easy way to incorporate a little life into your space, but be sure to not overdo it. Check out what I did here. I suggest one or two small plants and one large plant that I placed near the balcony door. I also love having fresh, cut flowers in my apartment that makes everything come alive, with a warm feel and also provide a friendly atmosphere. These white hydrangeas are a nice added touch for when you need a little pick me up.
Rugs and Carpets
An accent piece like an area rug can really warm up your entire space and make a huge difference. In the summer I had a white carpet to keep everything light and airy and now I’ve replaced it with this comfy plush one in grey tones. You can find patterned rugs and different sizes of carpets at La-Z-Boy, but I found this one to be the best fit for my living space. When I put my feet on the ground I want to feel like I’m in heaven and I think I’ve accomplished that here haha. This is one of those pieces that will last you a lifetime, so keep in mind you want something that is classic and neutral that you can live with for a long time.
Ornamental Accessories
I like to have a few items scattered throughout the space that create a sophisticated and stylish appeal. You want to work in three’s or five’s which are visually more appealing. So with that in mind I’ve included 3 items on the dining room table as well as 3 pieces on the end table that really catch your eye. I would recommend staying in one colour scheme, either gold or silver accent pieces. As you can tell I’ve chosen silver with the feature pieces on the dining room table as well as the silver lamp over in the corner. La-Z-Boy has a ton of accessories that you can choose from along the same lines as what I chose here that I know you will love.
Blankets and Throw Pillows
I’m obsessed with pillows for comfort and blankets because I always seem to be cold. Always! This is such an easy way to add instant comfort to your place without having to commit to a big ticket item. I suggest going for some neutral colours that work with whatever colours you have going on as I did here. I also chose some fancier beaded options from La-Z-Boy to add a little glamour to my space. This way it’s girly yet neutral enough that your man won’t feel uncomfortable or emasculated hanging out at home. So it’s a win win!! Having a comfortable space where the guys can hang out and watch the game is key. You can always throw the more fancier pillows on your bed to create more space as well. I couldn’t believe how many options La-Z-Boy has for accessories that are stylish, timeless and affordable. Lots of options when it comes to pillows and throws that pair nicely together.
Create a Bar in Your Kitchen
Let’s face it we all end up in the kitchen at some point during the evening and you definitely want to maximize your space for when you’re entertaining. If you have a designated area for drinks it makes it easier to entertain and looks nice too. I’ve created a space that people will gravitate towards and the grey vintage looking tray really dresses the black countertops up. Again you definitely want to keep accessories minimal to not overwhelm your space. I’ve also chosen to highlight pieces in light purple to tie in with my living room. I like these two beautiful purple jars that are both fancy and functional that hold fruit, coffee, nuts, or whatever you like.
Accent Mirror
Mirror accessories are very in right now and they can make a small space look so much larger. I absolutely love the details around the mirror that I have in my apartment right now that really makes a statement and I will have this for many years to come. La-Z-Boy has a few different options with all sorts of colours and styles you can choose from.
